Overwatch is free on PC, thanks to Overwatch League

Update: It appears the promotion for a free copy of Overwatch was short-lived. The Overwatch League has closed the form that promised a free copy of the PC game.

Original story: If you’ve waited this long to get into Overwatch — or are looking to move to the Windows PC version of Blizzard’s team-based hero shooter — your patience has been rewarded. Blizzard is giving away Overwatch for free on PC, thanks to the Overwatch League.

This particular free copy is different from Overwatch’s previous free weekends, apparently. You get to keep it.

All you’ll need to do is fill out this form at the Boston Uprising’s Overwatch League website and wait for a redemption code to show up in your inbox, which may take up to 72 hours. Then redeem that code on Battle.net. You’ll also get 200 Overwatch League tokens for signing up, which you can spend on cosmetics, like the newly released Overwatch League 2020 All-Star skins for Reinhardt and D.Va.

According to the official rules for this particular promotion (PDF), the period to score a free download of Overwatch ends on Jan. 15, 2021, but it might be better to grab it sooner than later.

The promotion comes just ahead of the Grand Finals weekend for the Overwatch League, which kicks off Thursday, Oct. 8. Of course, Blizzard also has a sequel in development. Overwatch 2 does not yet have a release date.
